KEEPING IT REAL SINCE 1980…..
Are you tired of health and wellness fads, trends and lack of evidence based articles and claims? Or do you feel like you don’t have a “tribe to call your own? Me freaking too!! Hi, my name is Christa, I am a 38 year old Wife, Mom and a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Don't be perplexed by the title, I am a Holistic Nutritionist with a side of Practitioner who can run various tests on clients. I am on a mission to help educate and empower individuals on how to regain control of their health on their own terms by creating a positive community of people who want to leave trends and fads behind. People who want to lead a happy, healthy life and thrive through food freedom and learn how their body functions at it's best. I truly believe there is no one size fits all answer, and “healthy” looks different on everyone.
I haven't always been conscientious of my health. In fact it was the complete opposite for me. Growing up as a teenager in the 90s’ low fat diets where all the rage, and I played sports so eating out was a frequent event for my family. Definitely not the picture of health. In my 20’s I developed gallstones and had my gallbladder removed, later to find out through my studies my gallbladder issues where do to my lack of fat intake during my teens and early 20’s. In my early 30’s I suffered from anxiety and postpartum depression after the birth of my daughter; only to be prescribed antidepressants. The medication only complicated matters making me feel zombie like and sick all the time. After careful research and deliberation I took myself off the antidepressants and started to take a more holistic approach to my health and wellness. I’m here to tell you if I can do it, so can you.
My huge wake up call was when my mom came home from a Dr's appointment and announced to the family she had stage four breast cancer and it had already metastasized to her lymph nodes. It was complete and utter devastation to say the least. Naturally the people that we turned to where my mom's Doctors and Specialists for guidance. My mom started Weight Watchers (cringe) and the rest of the family participated. I started to do research of my own after the oncologist recommended we not use antiperspirants because it contains aluminum, a potentially cancer causing chemical. This definitely peaked my interest as to why mainstream products can and do contain harmful chemicals.
I became so hell bent on finding ways for our family to be healthy, how to help my mom, but instead just became buried in a sea of conflicting information; and feelings of solitude and despair. My mom fought a long hard grueling battle for over six years. Unfortunately, the cancer metastasized to her lungs and bones and she was diagnosed terminally ill and given six months to live. She fought being terminally ill for a year, but her fragile body just couldn’t fight anymore.
After my mom’s passing I promised myself that I was going to try and help others in some sort of platform. I don’t want anyone to feel the way my family did on our health journey; no one should feel isolated, desperate and overwhelmed. I truly believe their is no one size fits all answer to health, but I do believe being healthy on your own terms is attainable. My family and I are living that right now and still learning. I can’t wait to connect with you and hear how your journey is going! Now let’s ninja kick life in the face together with our awesomeness.
